Initially engaged to review the acoustics of the bedrooms, Catalyst showcased their in depth knowledge and services to provide the new revised scope comprised of a brand new reception and admin block and a new 90 bed wing and the refurbishment of two older wings to bring them up to a 2014 look and feel.
During the process we have explored new conference facilities, replacing the refurbished wings with a new wing and reviewing the current restaurant to cater for the additional rooms that have been added. At the same time the design had to take into consideration factors such as the location (Christchurch Airport), the acoustics and the design to fit in with the greater plan that the area was being positioned for.Catalyst worked closely with the client sourcing international and locally supplied FF&E.
The hotel was built in the late 1960’s, over time additions had been added however the main buildings and front of house were not delivering the corporate appeal that the hotel chain wished for its guests. Over time the conference facilities were to small and over utilised, the Canterbury earthquake highlighted an opportunity to increase the number of beds, the conference facilities and options for conference room sizes to create a new experience for guests.
