Catalyst teamed up with Department of Corrections in 2017 for its National Office refurbishment in Wellington. A 14-floor building across 12,500m2 to provide comprehensive design services for the tenant.
A fully immersible Activity Based Working environment, the staff floors have a diverse choice of workplace settings including collaboration space, project space, focus rooms, and a central kitchen hub for gathering, positioned by the new stair connecting the floors. An extremely important aspect of this project was the Catalyst-led ‘retreat’ areas. Recognising that collaborative areas can sometimes be a little overwhelming due to the noise, hype and excitement that is generated, Catalyst developed retreat areas that enabled more introverted people to undertake their work. These areas also supported focus-based work activities and where privacy is required. As an added feature, Catalyst developed a Virtual Reality programme for the senior executive team – this enabled them to truly grasp how the new workspaces would work and how the multiple areas would support their respective teams.
